Thuy Cao
Pronounced Twee Cow
My goals as a therapist are to help you feel emotionally and mentally healthy as well as to facilitate the process of self-awareness and change.
Born in Vietnam, raised in the United States and a self-identified lesbian, I have been exposed to a variety of cultures and lifestyles. I am keenly interested in how societal, cultural and gender expectations influence lesbian, gay and bisexual men and women, in particular how these pressures affect our self-esteem and mental health. Although my
specialty is working with the gay women population, I also welcome
individuals and couples of any sexual orientation and background.
Beyond my formal education and training in clinical psychology, I bring to the therapeutic setting my broad career experiences in the field of education and business. My educational expertise started as a classroom teacher and then as a curriculum developer and trainer. In this profession, I was nominated as the Teacher of the Year. In my business role, I managed and launched multi-million dollar projects and various teams.
I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, couples and in groups on issues ranging from depression, anxiety and phobias to relationship conflicts, career frustrations and "coming out". My personal life experiences and education in family and child development, classroom teaching, diversity training, business management and clinical psychology (particularly in the areas of interpersonal relationships and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) make me uniquely qualified to help you with any of these stressors. Your level of comfort with me is very important. Our initial telephone conversation and meeting will give us a sense of our compatibility. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you. I can be reached at 424-835-0880 or tcaomft@yahoo.com.
